Destination: Orange Coast, Spain

This trip is designed for cyclists who want to maximise their limited annual leave. We combine high-quality gravel riding with stress-free logistics. You land, we pick you up, and you ride. The base in Benicàssim offers a unique "sweet spot"—immediate access to high-elevation mountain fire roads and flat, restorative coastal tracks, all within a 15-minute radius.

Benicàssim is a hidden gem on Spain’s Orange Blossom Coast. It offers terrain diversity that rivals the most famous cycling hubs, without the crowds.

  • The Vía Verde (Green Way): A spectacular 6km flat gravel track built on a disused railway line. It cuts through mountains via illuminated tunnels and hugs the jagged cliff edges—the ultimate scenic warm-up.

  • Desert de les Palmes Natural Park: A protected mountain range offering silence, challenging gradients, and lush Mediterranean vegetation just minutes from the coast.

  • The Route of the Villas: Finish your rides rolling past the iconic "Belle Époque" mansions of the late 19th century, a stunning architectural backdrop unique to this town.

  • Microclimate: Sheltered by the mountains, Benicàssim enjoys mild winters and warm springs, perfect for year-round training.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary provides a flavour of the trip, blending challenging gravel rides with opportunities to explore and relax. Daily distances and elevation are approximate and subject to change based on weather and group consensus.

  • Day 1 - Arrival & The Sunset Coastal Spin - Transfer from Valencia Airport (VLC) to the apartment (approx. 50 mins). Bike assembly in our workshop area. Welcome Briefing & Dinner at a local Tasca. If time allows, we will do a short ride: loop to the Ermita de la Magdalena ruins (30 km of distance, 300 m of climbing)

  • Day 2 - The Desert Challenge - We head inland into the Desert de les Palmes Natural Park. The steady gravel grind up to the Bartolo peaks, offering 360-degree views of the Mediterranean, followed by a fast, sweeping descent through pine forests towards Castellón (65 km, 1,100 m)

  • Day 3 - Orange Groves & Monasteries - A rolling "Sterrato" style route through the agricultural heartland. Winding hard-packed dirt roads through endless orange and almond groves. Mid-ride coffee stop at the historic Carmelite Monastery (50 km, 600 m)

  • Day 4 - The Wetlands Loop - Heading north to the Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park. A mix of flat wetland gravel paths (great for speed) and optional technical single-track segments for those wanting to test their skills. Bike Preparation & Checks

Your bike is your most important companion! Please ensure your gravel bike is in excellent condition before arriving.

  1. Tires: We recommend tubeless tyres with a width of 40mm or wider for the varied gravel surfaces. Ensure they are freshly sealed with sealant.

  2. Brakes & Gears: Have your local bike shop service your brakes and drivetrain. The Northern Algarve's hills mean you'll be using both heavily.

  3. Pre-Trip Service: It's highly advisable to get a full service at least two weeks before the trip to identify and fix any potential issues.

  4. Packing: If you are travelling with your own bike, make sure it is securely packed in a proper bike bag or case.

Travel and Insurance

Travel with peace of mind by arranging comprehensive coverage.

  • Medical Insurance: Ensure your travel insurance covers all necessary medical expenses while abroad.

  • Bike Insurance: We strongly recommend getting separate insurance to cover your bicycle against loss, damage, or theft. Please check if your policy covers cycling activities.

  • Travel Documents: Remember to check the current entry requirements for Portugal well in advance of the trip start date.
